Members Only Screenings

Sometimes a film is so captivating that you find yourself staring at the screen long after the credits have ended. When this happens to us, we immediately want to share our experience. But not with just anyone. Our Members Only screenings present these rare, neglected, or simply amazing films to our inner circle of card-carrying cinephiles.

Come join us and watch a great film, meet great people and enjoy a lively discussion immediately following the screening. This event is exclusive—envied even—so sign up for a Facets Membership today.

A Swedish Love Story
En kärlekshistoria

Film still: A Swedish Love Story

"Roy Andersson ... a master of the long-take, left-field comedy, a humane advocate of the virtues of the absurd"
  —The Guardian

Join Milos Stehlik, founder and director of Facets, at a special holiday edition of our Members Only screenings. This month we present A Swedish Love Story, the unreleased—in the U.S.—debut feature of one of the most fantastic filmmakers ever: Roy Andersson.

Best known today for his recent feature, A Pigeon Sat on a Branch Reflecting on Existence, Roy Andersson's filmography deserves more exposure. His small body of work is meticulous, absurd, wry, very funny, and wonderfully observational in depicting "everyman" characters. In A Swedish Love Story—a huge critical and audience success in Sweden—Andersson looks at the pure love between the daughter of a refrigerator salesman and the son of a car mechanic, in a film which is comic and absurd, melancholy, and astute in its depiction of the everyday.

Directed by Roy Andersson, 1970, Sweden, 115 mins. In Swedish with English subtitles.

The screening will be preceded by a small wine and beer reception and followed by discussion.
