Film still: The Sunshine Makers
"An astonishing tale"
  —Hollywood Reporter
"A nuanced portrait of behavior at once principled, naïve, and dangerous... [Cosmo Feilding] Mellen's film is the rare documentary to function as time capsule, philosophical inquiry, and rollicking thriller all at once"
  —The Daily Beast

A real-life Breaking Bad for the psychedelic set, The Sunshine Makers reveals the entertaining story behind Nicholas Sand and Tim Scully, the unlikely duo at the heart of 1960s American drug counterculture. Prior to meeting each other, these two visionaries independently come to the same conclusion: LSD will create world peace, one trip at a time. Eventually, their connections introduce them to each other, and a partnership is born, with the duo setting up their main lab in Windsor, California. These underground chemists manufactured a massive amount of acid, including the gold standard for quality LSD, Orange Sunshine, and at its peak, the Windsor lab generated four million doses of the most famous LSD ever produced. Soon enough, Orange Sunshine reigns over the U.S., Europe, India, and even Afghanistan, and as Nicholas and Tim are just getting started, they realize nothing lasts forever, especially with the authorities in hot pursuit.

Directed by Cosmo Feilding Mellen, UK, 2015, 90 mins.
