Accidental Love is an American satire directed by David O. Russell (under a pseudonym, Stephen Greene), from the novel Sammy's Hill by Kristin Gore (daughter of Al Gore). It stars Jessica Biel, Jake Gyllenhaal, Catherine Keener, James Marsden, Tracy Morgan, James Brolin, Bill Hader and Paul Reubens. The story is about Alice (Jessica Biel), a small-town waitress who is accidentally shot in the head by a nail gun. Her lack of health insurance renders her unable to have the nail removed, leading to increased mood swings and hypersexual behavior as a result of brain trauma. Alice then heads to Washington, DC to campaign for those with bizarre injuries, with the support of an unprincipled Congressman (Jake Gyllenhall) and a bizarre romance develops.
Filming was frequently halted due to financial difficulties, leading to Russell (Silver Linings Playbook, American Hustle) quitting the project and the film was completed without his involvement. "Screw this, I'm gonna go reinvent myself as a prestige filmmaker and score three Best Picture nominations in a row," he reputedly yelled on his way out the door. Come and see this long-abandoned political romantic comedy for yourself.
