Critics' Pick "Mesmerizing"
  —New York Times
"A rich and satisfying sensory experience, even without the sad real-world backstory"
  —Hollywood Reporter
"The directors, Leonor Caraballo and Matteo Norzi, film the [Peruvian] outpost and its wild surroundings with an ecstatic stillness. They capture the induced hallucinations with a visual imagination of rare specificity and fury"
  —New Yorker
"Caraballo and Norzi forge a distinctive tonality of lost, aching, and exultant sadness... Beneath the drugs and theatricality of the shamanic rituals is the struggle to reconcile oneself with impermanency"
  —Slant Magazine
"This trippy work maps the intersections of West and East, body and spirit, faith and terror with beguiling grace"
  —Chicago Tribune

In search of a miracle, an American woman embarks on a journey to the Peruvian Amazon and finds hope in a community, through rituals involving an ancient psychedelic plant known as ayahuasca. With her perception forever altered, she forges a bond with a young indigenous shaman undergoing a crisis of his own, and a motley crew of psychonauts seeking transcendence, companionship, and the meaning of their mortality. Filmmakers Leonor Caraballo and Matteo Norzi have deftly handled this drama by drawing from their own experiences, allowing for a uniquely stirring film that touches on the notions of friendship, familial bonds, and the fear of the unknown. Together they face down an uncertain future by learning how to tame the spiritual chaos that often prevents enlightenment.

Filmed on location in the Amazon jungle with many non-actors in leading roles, Icaros: A Vision is a disorienting and immersive movie crafted to resemble the mind-fracturing illumination of a psychedelic journey. But by blending fantasy and reality, sobriety and hallucination, this film also provides beautiful (and, occasionally, unsettling) insights into what people discover when forced outside of their comfort zone.
