What movies can we screen at the party?
We recommend a selection of age appropriate films featured in past Chicago International Children's Film Festivals. Our Festival Programmer can assemble a program based on the age and interest of the birthday girl or boy. Otherwise, you can watch most any movie of your choice. If you have one in mind, just ask us.
What is a typical party timeline?
Our morning parties begin with a 9:30am set-up start time. At 10:00am the party begins in lobby, with popcorn. At 10:05am the theater doors open with great fanfare! The movie begins at 10:15am, and will end somewhere between 11:15am and 11:45am. The movie is followed by lunch, cake, and any other party activities, and the party ends at 12:30pm.
Our afternoon parties begin in the lobby at 12:30pm. Theater doors open at 12:35, and the movie begins at 12:45, with set-up happening in the upstairs party room while the movie is playing. The movie ends between 1:45pm and 2:15pm, and the party continues with snacks and activities until 3:00pm.
What spaces do you have available?
We have a Cinémathèque Theater that seats 100. (Maximum party size is 55 guests.) We also have an upstairs Party Room where you can serve food and hold party activities.
What is provided in the Party Room?
The Party Room contains up to 6 large rectangular tables and 30 chairs, plus windowbox seating and several couches. There is some refrigerator space available, as well as a microwave. Maximum capacity of the room is 50 people.
Is child supervision included?
No supervision of your guests is your responsibility. There are no drop offs. We strongly recommend that you encourage parents to stay for the party, and to supervise their own children. For safety reasons, we also require a ratio of at least one adult for every 4 children.

The rental is for groups of up to 55 and includes our theater, lobby and upstairs party room for $400.

What other programs does Facets offer for children?
Facets Children's Programs offers a number of wonderful movie programs for children of all ages! Every October, we hold the Chicago International Children's Film Festival the largest festival of films for children in North America - which brings over 200 movies from 40 countries around the world to about 28,000 children, parents, and teachers throughout Chicago.
In the summer, we run Facets Kids Film Camp for children ages 7 to 14. Kids learn the techniques, language, and process of filmmaking from professional filmmakers and respected critics. Instruction includes the basics of filmmaking techniques (camera angles, shots, lighting, and sound recording), a foundation in film vocabulary and criticism, and dozens of hands-on activities, including storyboarding, screenwriting, acting, writing reviews, and making a movie!
We also offer year-round screenings of official Festival selections, held at Facets Cinémathèque and other partner venues around Chicago. Our Facets Family Film Series, screening the best in children's film, runs every second Saturday from January to June.
In addition, each month offers exciting hands on educational workshops, providing young budding movie lovers the unique opportunity to learn, from industry experts, both the art and craft of film and emerging media.
