Philip Kaufman's intriguing remake of the Don Siegel classic alters the subtext from Cold War paranoia to the numbing effects of the "me generation." Not quite as effectively primal as the original, but a strong film in its own right, with startling special effects. Starring Donald Sutherland, Brooke Adams, Leonard Nimoy, Jeff Goldblum and Veronica Cartwright, with cameos by Siegel and original star Kevin McCarthy.
