Jim Tahana (Michael Cudlitz, Southland) is the eponymous dark tourist, a socially isolated security guard who spends his holidays visiting the sites of brutal killings. He is driven by an obsession that has been part of his DNA since he was a young boy: grief tourismthe act of traveling with the intent to visit places of tragedy or disaster. On his most recent excursion, to the hometown of an arsonist/mass murderer, he meets Betsy (Melanie Griffith, Something Wild) an emotionally vulnerable waitress with whom he begins to develop an oddly intimate connection. But as he visits the sites of the town's tragic history, he begins to relive elements of his own grim past, as his obsessions release an unspeakable secret festering within him, bringing Dark Tourist to its brutal and shocking finale.
A psychological-thriller in the baneful tradition of films like Taxi Driver and Monster, Dark Tourist takes us into the chilling labyrinth of a man's disturbing hobby and his even darker mind.
