A SPECIAL PRESENTATION!
THE POLISH FILM FESTIVAL EVENT!
WINNER OF THE GOLDEN TEETH AWARD FOR BEST FILM!
BEFORE TWILIGHT
(JESZCZE NIE WIECZÓR)
"Like Bławut's other films...it's scrappy but heartfelt, and certainly one of the competition's most straightforwardly enjoyable films" -FilmJournal
Before Twilight casts the greatest Polish actors, who once starred in ground-breaking films by Andrzej Wajda, Marta Meszaros, Tadeusz Konwicki and others. Their lives become part of the film, and the film becomes their lives, as they appear on the screen in the first fiction film by Jacek Bławut, who is known for his documentary films. The fascinating storyline is about the residents of the Retirement Home for Actors, who usually pass their time with trivial activities, decide to stage "Faust" by J.W. Goethe. The idea comes from a veteran actor and elderly gallant, Jerzy (Jan Nowicki), who suddenly appears in their lives. His vitality and "Faust" rehearsals break the monotonous routine of the home, revealing passion, joy of life and dreams of true artistic pride in once-esteemed artists. It is a film about love, the passage of time and actors - their eccentricities and their dreams about appearing on the stage for one more, maybe the last, time.
Directed by Jacek Bławut, Poland, 2008, 35mm, 98 mins. In Polish with English subtitles.
