Based on a true story, Angel of Mine is an unpredictable dramatic thriller that stars Catherine Frot (The Page Turner) as Elsa Valentin, a divorced mother on the brink of a custody battle for her 10-year-old son Thomas. When she glimpses a young girl called Lola at a children's party, she becomes convinced that she is the daughter that she thought was lost in a hospital fire seven years ago. Elsa subsequently engineers a meeting with Lola's mother, Claire (Sandrine Bonnaire, Intimate Strangers) and slowly insinuates herself into their lives, and her conviction grows stronger with every encounter. As Elsa's behavior becomes more and more obsessive, she begins to neglect her job and family, while Claire gradually starts to suspect that something is not right. Angel of Mine is an extremely suspenseful and emotionally devastating Hitchcokian drama with a strong screenplay and outstanding performances from Frot and Bonnaire.
Directed by Safy Nebbou, France, 2007, 95 mins. In French with English subtitles.
