CITADEL

Winner of the Midnight Audience Award at the SXSW Film Festival, Citadel brings a fresh take to classic horror in this story of Tommy Cowley, who is struggling to become normal, but at the moment is an agoraphobic wreck after a shocking act of violence leaves him to raise his newborn daughter alone. Tommy alternates days hiding out indoors in his apartment from imagined threats and taking intense therapy sessions.. When the same feral gang who attacked him and his wife begins terrorizing his life again, he is torn between his paralyzing fear and protective parental instinct. With the help of a cantankerous vigilante priest, Tommy must overcome his trauma and venture into the heart of the grim tower block known as the citadel to save his family.

This debut feature by writer-director Ciarán Foy ratchets up the tension and paranoia, portrayed brilliantly by Aneurin Barnard in his role as Tommy. Citadel shows us what fear is, and dares us to defeat it.
