For many young boys in Karachi, Pakistan, running away is a risk that facilitates an escape from domestic abuse, but can also be a declaration of defiance and independence. These Birds Walk features the work of Abdul Sattar Edhi, founder of the The Edhi Home and Ambulance Foundation, showcasing his devotion and the organization's immeasurable impact. The EDHI Foundation is the largest welfare organization in Pakistan and one of the few resources for young runaways, with an official policy of accepting everyone, providing shelter, food, and an education.
This inspirational documentary focuses on a dedicated ambulance driver and the young people he is reuniting with their families. Through this process we learn of the struggles and outlooks of those involved, hearing the young boys imagining their overwhelming reception by family and neighbors, while their faces betray their dreams.
Filmed over a three year period, we bear witness to the struggles of these wayward street children and the samaritans looking out for them in this ethereal and inspirational story of resilience.
