Cinéfondation Award Cannes Film Fest
"Sharp, nearly perfect... The filmmaker, it appears, is a born master of metaphor and displays a natural, inquisitive instinct for close-ups and what a face can reveal in terms of a character's interior life" -Chicago Tribune
The Needle is a coming-of-age drama centering on a young girl who is going to get her ears pierced but a quarrel between her parents overwhelms the situation. The Needle has "beautiful precision and the most exciting thing about it is that I can feel a very unique flavor to this filmmaker's voice. It's got subtle observations and it's also very modern," says filmmaker Jane Campion, who was the jury president for the Cinéfondation.
Directed by Anahita Ghazvinizadeh, U.S.A., 21 mins.
