U.S. Theatrical Premiere with filmmaker Kathleen Slattery-Moschkau
"The timing of Side Effects...couldn't be better." -USA Today
"The romance here is rich and the laughs plentiful, but this is no fluffy romantic comedy...[Slattery-Moschkau has] made a film that attempts to rip the cover off of the industry and reveal all of its slimy inner-workings and with a healthy dose of humor and romance, she does so with great effect." -Film Threat
"America! Built on a better pill." Karly (Katherine Heigl, Grey's Anatomy) has spent the last ten years in America's pharmaceutical industry, selling drugs and feels ethically challenged about undermining her ideals. While conflicted on a daily basis by the values of self-interest in profits (at the expense of patients), Karly is seduced by the promise of corporate America. Then Karly falls for Zach, who challenges her values and walks away from her lucrative but empty job. Karly decides to drop the sales pitches in favor of brutal honesty as she talks to doctors about the latest drugs that are available. To her surprise, her sales numbers skyrocket, turning her into the company's rising star, and the lure of material success is more tempting than ever. As their relationship blossoms, Karly devises a plan to get out. But leaving is never quite as easy as it seems. Filmmaker Kathleen Slattery-Moschkau based this sly satire on her own (former) career in pharmaceutical industry.
