"Much sentiment is expressed and tears are shed, but Intimidad never feels forced, melodramatic, or staged. Co-directors Redmon and Sabin exercise restraint in the presenting the young couple's story while also making it cinematic" -Cinematical
"Heartfelt... [filmmakers] Sabin and Redmon have sensitive empathy for their subjects" -Chicago Tribune
Shot over the course of 4 years, Intimidad is an in-depth portrait of Cecy and Camilo Ramirez, a young couple struggling to make ends meet in Reynosa, Mexico. They have recently left their 2-year-old daughter, Loida, with Cecy's mother in Santa Maria in the hopes of building a proper home. After one year, they return to visit their daughter for the Christmas holidays, but their vacation is hardly the respite the couple expected, as Loida hardly recognizes her parents, and a sudden tragedy threatens to tear the family apart. Ashley Sabin and David Redmon (Mardi Gras: Made in China, Kamp Katrina) use a mixture of digital video, Super 8, and 16mm film stocks, for their intense, and at times surreal film, which challenges the audience to empathize how the political complicates the personal.
Directed by David Redmon & Ashley Sabin, 2008, BetaSP, 72 mins.
