From page to screen, discover what it takes to create a fully-realized alternate world.
Is your tween or teen into film and literature that explores characteristics of dystopian fiction? Join critic Dave Canfield as he examines the basic history of this exciting genre, exploring key iconographies, characters and underlying themes, and their impact on storytelling in such legendary films such as Alien and Terminator.
In addition to film clips, discussions and exercises, each student will work in teams to write their own one-page treatment for their own dystopian science fiction film. Emphasis will be placed on collaboration as a means of not only resolving the narrative of the story, but resolving the problems that arise from the creative process.
Dave Canfield is one of the founding members of Twitch Film, the world cinema blog with more than 2,000,000 unique visitors monthly. He is also a long-time member of the Chicago Film Critics Association, as well as a staff member of the Magill's Cinema Annual film encyclopedia.
If you missed the awesome criticism immersion workshops in October and November, then you won't want to miss this one!
