Small Russian Clouds of Smoke details the story of the Popov family, one of the prominent families of the pre-war Russian emigration to Czechoslovakia. Turmoil captured by the Popovs' camera brings a unique testimony to life 70 years ago.

Russian emigrant Vladimír Dimitrievič Popov and his family settled in Prague in the 1920s. Thanks to cigarette making machines that Popov invented, he secured a decent living for him and his family, particularly his two daughters who were as different as could be. One adapted to the Czech environment well and settled, while the resistant other sought her own way and finally returned to the Soviet Union.
